The University of Miami/UHealth Department of SCCC has an exciting opportunity for a Full Time Research Associate 2 to work at the UHealth medical campus in Miami, FL.

CORE JOB SUMMARY

The Research Associate 2, SOM supports research activities for the assigned division by conducting laboratory experiments on assigned research projects. Moreover, the incumbent operates with the goal of advancing his/her expertise through continued education, training, and research.

CORE JOB FUNCTIONS

1. Understands and interprets research protocols and procedures.
2. Participates in the publication of significant results.
3. Maintains an overview of relevant research findings.
4. Ensures all research is undertaken according to good research practice.
5. Keeps abreast of current publications relative to methods, techniques, and developments within the area of research.
6. Collects, prepares, analyzes, dissects, and evaluates specimens or tissue cultures.
7. Operates and maintains laboratory equipment.
8. Performs a variety of routine assays, tests, and studies.
9. Performs calculations to complete research test results, collects data, and performs statistical analysis of laboratory results.

10. Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS

Education:
Bachelor’s Degree in relevant field required

Experience:
Min 2 years of experience

• Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail.
• Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work under pressure while meeting deadlines.
• Ability to process and handle confidential information with discretion.
• Ability to work evenings, nights, and weekends as necessary.

• Ability to work independently and/or in a collaborative environment.

Department Specific Functions
The applicant should be able to learn quickly and be prepared to join a laboratory that will be starting a new line of research into genetic mechanisms of blood cancers with direct translation to developing new treatments for patients with cancer. Main laboratory experiments are molecular biology, gene-editing, transgenic animal models and drug sensitivity/resistance screening.
Expectations :
• Help ordering and setting up equipment/reagents in the laboratory
• Manage basic laboratory functions
• Must be willing to work with animals, experience preferred but not required
• Perform experiments with guidance and be able to transition to independent experiments.
