Job Description

Summary

The individual in this position will perform research into how the human microbiome impacts health and disease. Primary responsibilities include cultivation of microbial communities and characterization of microbial physiology. Additional responsibilities may include cell culture, measurement of biological markers of disease, processing of samples for metabolomics. Under the direction and general supervision of the Principal Investigator, the Research Associate will collaborate with other team members to conduct research. The successful applicant will have significant experience in state-of-the-art techniques for studying host:microbiome interactions.

Job Duties

  • Plan, conduct, and analyze laboratory research experiments with advanced model systems.
  • Collect, compiles, and analyzes complex data.
  • Document results of experiments.
  • Contribute to laboratory and project meetings (including preparation and delivery of research updates).
  • Conduct literature searches and summarizes information to stay abreast of the field of microbiome science.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Basic Science or a related field. Experience in lieu of degree will not be accepted.
  • Three years of relevant experience typically as a Research Assistant, Research Technician or Postdoctoral Fellow/Associate.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Must have strong attention to detail.
  • Must have strong analytical Thinking/Problem Solving.
  • Must be able to follow established procedures and properly record results; have excellent interpersonal skills, including oral and written communication skills; capable of working alone and as part of highly collaborative teams.
  • Must have flexibility in work schedule to occasionally work evenings or weekends.
  • Significant experience with culturing complex microbial communities strongly preferred.
  • Experience cell culture strongly preferred.
  • Experience in molecular biology strongly preferred.
  • Experience in immunology preferred.
